Best OG Image Size in 2026

Use a 1200 x 630 image for the safest large social share card across major platforms.

Use 1200 x 630

A 1200 x 630 image is still the safest default if you want one social preview image that works almost everywhere. It gives you the clean 1.91:1 shape that Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Slack, Discord, and most unfurling tools understand without needing extra drama.

The main thing is to keep the important stuff centered. Platforms can crop edges, round corners, compress images, or show the card in a smaller container. If your headline, logo, or product shot is right on the edge, it is the first thing that gets punished.

Keep it public

Your `og:image` URL needs to be an absolute HTTPS URL that any crawler can reach. Do not use a local file path, a relative URL, a protected CDN URL, or an image that requires cookies. If a person can see the image but a crawler cannot, your preview can still break.

Also watch out for firewall rules and hotlink protection. A lot of broken preview images are not design problems. They are access problems.

Design for small feeds

Pretend the card will be viewed on a phone while someone is half-scrolling. Use big type, one clear visual, and strong contrast. If the image needs ten seconds of inspection to understand, it is doing too much.

A clean card wins because people understand it fast. The job is not to make a tiny poster. The job is to make the link look trustworthy enough to click.
